![]() Local News Wefald announces retirement from Kansas State MANHATTAN, KS -- Kansas State University President Jon Wefald is announcing plans to retire at the end of the next academic year. Wefald has been at the Manhattan campus since 1986. In that time, enrollment has grown from 16,000 students to more than 23,000 this year. Winter wheat matures slower than normal with cool spring WICHITA, KS -- The Kansas wheat harvest is getting nearer as the crop matures. Kansas Ag Statistics reports that 19 percent of the wheat is headed, but the crop is maturing slower than normal in the cool spring weather. In its latest crop condition update, the agency says the percentage of headed wheat is well behind the 61 percent average for this late in the season. H&R Block reports strong tax results KANSAS CITY, MO -- A late-season rush of tax filers helped H&R Block to its strongest tax season since 1999. The Kansas City-based company says tax-preparation revenue rose 9 percent between November and April 17th to nearly 2.8 billion dollars. The number of clients coming into H&R Block's network of retail offices during the final two weeks of the season rose nearly 5 percent, generating a surge in revenue.
